A Mother's Day Murder in Maine leads to the Virginia Jackson Memorial Scholarship

On Mother's Day in 1997 a retired school teacher and grandmother of five went missing after working a shift at her part-time job at a local supermarket. Six days later her body was found badly beaten in the woods. Two people where soon arrested and charged with murder after having abducted her at random from the grocery store parking lot in order to steal her car. Soon there after the Virginia Jackson Memorial Scholarship at Scarborough High School, where Virginia has a teacher, was formed. The scholarship continues to this day and is awarded to a graduating senior.
