Welcome to the SPACE IN 60 podcast, where hosts Clint Graumann, Chad Baker, and Andrew Pylypchuk bring you into the world of the new space industry! Today, Clint and Chad kick off the conversation with updates on what’s happening in the industry before turning to today’s guest, Mission Space CEO, Ksenia Moskalenko. Ksenia is working in the space weather space and is trying to educate the public on its importance, both in how it can cause us to lose space technology and affect life here on earth.
Mission Space is building infrastructure set up in space and on the ground to collect data on space weather and give it to organizations so they can prepare appropriately. They’ll also be able to notify and warn the public when space weather will affect their homes and towns. While there are some government agencies that are monitoring space weather, Ksenia explains that her private company can do it much faster and cheaper. They rely on the government’s date to help them, and then they focus their team on collecting the data more efficiently.
Mission Space is only a year and a half old, so Ksenia has been spending a lot of her time getting her foot in the door with investors, programs, and organizations. Her business was born and grew in the pandemic, Clint says he’s excited to see how many innovations and organizations are born out of the hardship of a global pandemic. Without the pandemic, Ksenia says she wouldn’t have had the time to devote to learning about the industry. Her advice to others getting into the space industry is to read, consume media, and ask questions to learn as you go.
Looking to the future, Ksenia says Mission Space is on track to meet their fundraising goal in the first quarter of 2022. In 2022, they’ll also do demonstrations and offer their platform to the public. She’s also looking forward to a five-day vacation skiing in Bulgaria. As the industry grows and revolutionizes, Ksenia is excited to see what specialized topics corporations may tackle and the jobs that will grow out of the space. Looking back, she said she would try to focus on one thing at a time
