Podcast: SPACE IN 60
Episode: GRANT BLAISDELL | Blockchain & Space
Welcome to the SPACE IN 60 podcast, where Clint Graumann, Andrew Pylypchuk, and Chad Baker bring you into the world of the NewSpace industry! Today's episode features guest Grant Blaisdell, an entrepreneur in the space industry, Web 3.0, blockchain, crypto, and nonprofits. Grant seems to be bringing space into every area of his life, and he brings a unique industry angle to the table!
Grant's interest in space has familial roots, as his grandfather was an officer in the Polish air force who helped to start the Polish astronaut program and wrote on the importance of democratizing access to space. Grant's mother kept the torch burning and introduced Grant to the space industry; his work on the new space economy flows from this early introduction, and is a legacy mission for Grant. He approaches space not from the perspective of a scientist or billionaire, but from the macroeconomic end. He does a lot of things with his time other than space-related ventures, but he fits space in and makes connections between it and such other interests as Web 3.0 and blockchain. He explains his work on a sort of digital rights management system and with Coinfirm, before transitioning to his recent efforts to bring space to market.
Moving forward, Grant explains how he arrived at and is going about his current projects. Grant has long engaged space in a music-oriented way, in part to make space more accessible in an economic ownership/access way, and in part to make it more emotionally accessible. He has been working on sending music into space and ultimately creating a sellable product. While much of his efforts are toward the Copernic Space Web 3.0 marketplace, Grant has also worked with the Lady Rocket Foundation to advance space entrepreneurship, education, and entertainment experiences, and partnered with the Lunar Outpost to shape the developing reality of a space asset class. Space assets can be sold and turned into real assets, and while there will be a learning curve on navigating this asset class, it is a component of the new space economy that will only continue to grow!
Before the conversation ends, Grant comments on his idea for a space investment company, the low venture capital required for his work, and what he's excited about in the field, and the hosts run through their final thoughts on the interview and the topic of data integrity.
