Obesity in GI Care: Updates on devices

This is episode 4 of 6 from our program: Obesity in GI Care: Start the Conversation, Change the Narrative. Over the course of 6 podcast episodes and 3 webinars, you’ll learn a comprehensive approach to diagnosing and treating obesity, with a specific focus on patients with GI comorbidities. This series highlights key findings and strategies from AGA’s 2017 Practice guide on Obesity and Weight management, Education and Resources (POWER program). In this episode, our host Dr. Andres Acosta is joined by Dr. Barham Abu Dayyeh to discuss: • Gastroenterologists and the GI care team should embrace obesity care as weight management is proven to be beneficial in patients with comorbid gastrointestinal (GI) diseases, such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), reflux esophagitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gallbladder disease, pancreatitis, esophageal and colon cancer. • Gastroenterologists and the GI care team are poised to offer comprehensive care for patients with obesity who may require endoscopic procedures and/or bariatric surgery to achieve long term weight loss. • Updates on devices for obesity management that are available now and a look into what may be available in the future.
