It is not only related to access, insurance, and socioeconomics. There are other issues surrounding education and treating every patient equally. Dr. Sogade emphasizes the need to listen to every cry. More barriers around obesity are discussed in this episode. Many individuals due not have access to a nutritionist. What can we do about this? All healthcare professionals need to have education about nutrition. Dr. Knight explains school age children should also be educated in this area. Some do not have the knowledge in this area. Others, simply have no hope. While many don’t have the accessibility and expenses to choose healthy foods. Dr. Knight points out that many people live in food swamps - Where you aren’t in situations where making healthy food choices are easier. Food swamps are much more correlated to rates of obesity as there are larger amounts of unhealthy foods easily accessible. These issues all fall back to education.
