Out of the approximately 330 million people in the United States, a little less than a million people die of cardiovascular disease a year. The Million Hearts program aims to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes within 5 years. This program was created by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The focus is to implement a small set of priorities and targets to improve cardiovascular health for all. The goals of Million Hearts will not only advance science but also health equity. Dr. Sogade explains the importance of health equity in today’s episode. In upcoming episodes, Dr. Sogade will discuss ways to empower people to take the steps to lower the risks of cardiovascular diseases. Because stressors and disadvantages affect some groups of people more than others, it is necessary to take some factors into consideration. Dr. Sogade raises these questions which will be further discussed: How can people with little means pay for medication and at home blood pressure monitoring? How can people exercise safely in their environment? How can they get access to health services? These are all imperative questions. Million Hearts aims to advance health equity through policies and practices that provide fair access to resources and opportunities to enable cardiovascular health for all. For more information, the CDC provides 24/7 access to live agents, and the Million Hearts program provides evidence-based strategies and resources for both health professionals and patients. The Birth Center For Natural Deliveries Foundation is happy to join with the CDC Foundation and Million Hearts initiative to share this information! #millionhearts #cardiovasculardisease #cdc #healthequity #millionheartsprogram #heartdisease I
