Prelude to Dr MaryJoy Weathersby cesarean section episodes This episode is a prelude to the upcoming series, That Bikini Cut. Dr. Maryjoy Weathersby will be joining Coco Pods next week to continue the series. In this episode, Dr. Bola Sogade gives an insight to caesarian sections and an overview of the upcoming episodes. To begin this episode, Dr. Sogade explains the caesarian section. This method of delivery involves an incision in the belly and uterus. The most common incision is the Pfannenstiel incision or the bikini cut. The incision is made from one side of the abdomen to the other side just above the pubic hair line. This type of incision makes it possible for the woman to hide the incision if she would like. There are a variety of reasons for a caesarian section. Some of these reasons include failure of labor to progress, concern for the health of the baby, the position of the baby, and health conditions of the mother. There is a rising rate of mother’s electing a caesarian section over vaginal birth. This is a concern because of the risks associated with c-sections for low risks births. The American College of OBGYN has proposed to decrease primary or first-time c-section deliveries. Dr. Sogade explains the ways that primary c-sections can be reduced. In the upcoming series, the issue of structural racism will be discussed. Black women have more caesarian sections than white women in the United States. This is due to structural racism. These unnecessary c-sections put black women at a higher risk of complications, longer healing time after delivery, and even death.
