This episode includes the discovery of sex hormones, conceiving with PCOS, and endocrine disorders. The two doctors discuss the smooth coordination between two complex systems, the endocrine system, and the female reproductive system. The endocrine system includes the hypothalamus and pituitary gland which are the central control for hormones in the body. The reproductive system’s main goal is to produce offspring. This is more complex than it appears. Many women with PCOS struggle to get pregnant. It is important for a woman to have a regular menstrual cycle to maintain normal estrogen levels and androgen levels. Although it is possible to get pregnant with pcos, it may be more difficult. Clomiphene citrate is a drug used in the management of inadequate cycles with respect to fertility management. This medication increases FSH which increases follicle stimulation and growth. Dr. Gore explains how she counsels women with pcos when trying to become pregnant. The two doctors also discuss endocrine disorders during pregnancy. The most common is gestational diabetes. Thyroid issues can also be a prevalent issue in women. Pregnant women need 50% more thyroid hormones during pregnancy. Because of this, it is important to have healthy thyroid hormone levels before pregnancy. There are many risks associated with an under or overactive thyroid during pregnancy, such as fetal growth issues, preeclampsia, and miscarriage. Diagnosing a thyroid disorder may be difficult during pregnancy because symptoms can seem like normal pregnancy systems. Because of this, it is important to monitor thyroid hormone levels throughout pregnancy. #endocrinedisorders #endocrinesystem #reproductivesystem #pcos #thryoid #gravesdisease #goiter #hyperthyroidism #health #femalehealth #hormones #pregnancy
